Overview
Display label: Update the name of the _Group_ using the related _Grade_ – _Stream_ of the _Group_ saved.
Setting ID: Xrisi_TaksisKateuthinsis_AutomatiEnimerosiTmimatos
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Higher Education Customization, group Basic Settings
What This Setting Does
When enabled, Classter automatically updates the name of an existing _Group_ to include its related _Grade_-_Stream_ combination whenever that _Group_ is saved through the automatic _Group_ process, keeping the name in sync if the _Grade_ or _Stream_ changes later.
Where It Is Used
This setting has no dedicated screen. It runs automatically inside the same automatic _Group_ creation and update process, triggered when a _Subject_ linked to an existing default _Group_ is saved.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Only takes effect when Use automatic _Group_ creation based on _Subject_ (Auto_Create_Group_From_Subject) is enabled and Higher Education Mode is active – it is read only inside that same automatic process, and only applies when an existing _Group_ is found for the _Subject_ rather than a brand new one being created.
- When an existing _Group_ is found and this setting is enabled, Classter recalculates the _Group_’s name from the _Subject_’s description plus the related _Grade_ and _Stream_ short descriptions, then overwrites the _Group_’s name and description with the recalculated value.
- Also refreshes the _Group_’s _Grade_-_Stream_ link so it matches the _Subject_’s current _Stream_.
- If this setting is disabled, an existing _Group_’s name is left untouched even if the setting for adding the _Grade_-_Stream_ on first creation is enabled.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute’s _Subject_ Calculus I (MTH101) already has a linked _Group_ named Calculus I. A curriculum change moves MTH101 from _Stream_ Science to _Stream_ Engineering. With this setting enabled, the next time MTH101 is saved, Classter automatically renames the _Group_ to Calculus I Year 2 Engineering. If this setting were disabled, the _Group_ would keep its old name, Calculus I, even after the _Stream_ change.
When to Use
When to Enable
- The institution wants _Group_ names to always stay accurate as _Grade_ or _Stream_ assignments change on Subjects, avoiding stale or mismatched _Group_ names.
When to Disable
- The institution manually curates _Group_ names, for example using a custom naming convention, and wants to prevent Classter from overwriting those names.
Notes
- Prerequisites: Use automatic _Group_ creation based on _Subject_ (Auto_Create_Group_From_Subject) must be enabled, Higher Education Mode must be active, and an existing _Group_ linked to the _Subject_ must be present for the update to apply.
- Related settings: Use automatic _Group_ creation based on _Subject_ (Auto_Create_Group_From_Subject in Higher Education Customization > Basic Settings)

K-12 vs Higher Education: Confirmed in code, this setting is read only inside the automatic _Group_-creation and update routine that is itself gated by Higher Education Mode and by Use automatic _Group_ creation based on _Subject_. In K-12 configurations where Higher Education Mode is disabled, or where automatic _Group_ creation from _Subject_ is turned off, this setting has no effect.
