This setting controls whether Subject books are assigned to a Student automatically, without any manual action from the school office. When enabled, as soon as a Student is enrolled in a Group, any books linked to the Subjects taught in that Group are assigned to the Student right away. When disabled, the assignment step is skipped and someone in the school office must add those books to the Student by hand.
