Enable Stream Per Curriculum Subject

Updated on July 8, 2026

2 min to read

Overview

Display label: Enable Stream’s indication per curriculum Subject

Setting ID: Enable_Stream_Per_Curriculum_Subject

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Higher Education Customization, group Basic Settings

What This Setting Does

This setting adds a _Stream_ selector to each curriculum _Subject_’s configuration, so a curriculum _Subject_ can be tagged with the specific _Stream_ it belongs to. Once a _Subject_ is tagged this way, that _Stream_ information is also shown to _Students_ during their online enrollments, helping them identify which _Stream_ a given _Subject_ relates to before enrolling.

Where It Is Used

Main Settings > Educational Programs > Curriculum, on a curriculum Subject’s properties screen: when enabled, a Stream dropdown appears there, pre-filtered to the Streams that belong to the Subject’s related Grade (or all Streams if no Grade is set).

The Stream indication also appears automatically, with no separate screen of its own, in Student online enrollment, re-registration, and admission-application flows, wherever curriculum Subjects are listed for a Student to enroll in.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • When enabled, the curriculum Subject properties screen shows an additional Stream dropdown list for each Subject.
  • If the Subject already has a related Grade, the Stream dropdown only lists Streams that belong to that Grade; if the Subject has no related Grade, all of the institution’s Streams are listed.
  • The Stream selected for a Subject is stored on that Subject’s curriculum properties and carried through to any screen that displays the Subject during enrollment.
  • The same setting is checked during online enrollment, re-registration and admission-application processing so that the Stream tag set on a Subject is surfaced to the Student at the point of enrollment, not only in the administrative curriculum screen.
  • When disabled (the default), curriculum Subjects have no Stream indication at all: no Stream dropdown is shown on the Subject properties screen, and no Stream information is added to online enrollment lists.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute enables this setting for its Business curriculum, which is organized under Grade “Year 3” with two Streams: Marketing and Finance.

The curriculum coordinator opens the Subject “Consumer Behavior” in the curriculum structure and, thanks to this setting, sees a Stream dropdown limited to Marketing and Finance (since the Subject’s Grade is Year 3). She sets it to Marketing.

When Student Sofia K. later opens her online enrollment page to pick electives for Year 3, Consumer Behavior is now shown with a Marketing stream tag, helping her recognize it belongs to her specialization before she enrolls.

When to Use

When to Enable

  • The institution’s curriculum Subjects are shared or overlapping across multiple Streams within the same Grade, and staff and Students need a clear label of which Stream a Subject belongs to.
  • Online enrollment or admission screens should show Stream information alongside each Subject so Students can make informed elective or specialization choices.

When to Disable

  • The institution does not organize its curriculum by Stream, or Streams are already implicit from the classification structure itself, making an extra per-Subject Stream tag unnecessary.
  • Keeping the curriculum Subject properties screen simpler, without an extra dropdown, is preferred when Stream-level detail is not needed.

Notes

  • Prerequisite: the institution must have Streams configured under Main Settings > Educational Programs > Streams for the Stream dropdown to have any options to choose from.
  • Related setting: Enable GPA Calculation Format (Enable_GPA_Calculation_Format in Annual Results > Basic Settings), read together with this setting when curriculum Subject properties are loaded.
  • Related setting: Curriculum classifications – inherit the Filters by Educational Program from parent classifications (InherittheFiltersbyEducationalProgramfromparentclassifications in Higher Education Customization > Basic Settings)

K-12 vs Higher Education: the Portal screens and controllers that read this setting do not check the Higher Education Mode master toggle directly, so it is not code-gated by that toggle. It is grouped under Higher Education Customization because curriculum Subjects and Streams belong to the curriculum-structure feature set used by institutions with a program-based academic structure, which is the Higher Education side of Classter; without curriculum Subjects and Streams configured, this setting has nothing to display.
