Enabled Functions In Alumni Portal

Updated on July 8, 2026

1 min to read

Overview

Display label: Enabled Functions In Alumni Portal

Setting ID: Enabled_Functions_In_Alumni_Portal

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Dashboard Settings > Alumni Portal Settings & Rights

What This Setting Does

This setting controls which functional areas of the Alumni Portal are turned on for users with the Alumni role. Each area can be individually selected or removed from the list, letting the institution present a smaller or larger set of features to former students.

Where It Is Used

The selected functions govern what alumni see across the Alumni Portal: the available options are Calendar, Classmates, Academic Progress, Reporting, Personal Data, Application Management, Requests, Internships, Financial, and Birthdays. For example, on the My Classmates and Top Classmates pages, the Birthdays function specifically controls whether classmates’ birthday information is shown to alumni; removing Birthdays from the list hides that information on those pages.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • All ten functions (Calendar, Classmates, Academic Progress, Reporting, Personal Data, Application Management, Requests, Internships, Financial, Birthdays) are enabled by default.
  • Removing a function from the list hides the corresponding area or information from alumni users; adding it back restores visibility.
  • Only users with the Alumni role are affected; this setting has no impact on Student, Parent, Teacher, or Staff dashboards.
  • Changes take effect the next time an alumni user loads the relevant Alumni Portal page.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute wants to keep its Alumni Portal focused on networking and giving, without exposing financial details to former students. The administrator removes Financial and Application Management from the enabled functions list, keeping Calendar, Classmates, Academic Progress, Reporting, Personal Data, Requests, Internships, and Birthdays active. After saving, alumni users no longer see financial information in the portal, while classmates still see each other’s birthdays on the My Classmates page.

When to Use

Review this list when defining the scope of the Alumni Portal for your institution: enable a function when you want alumni to have access to that area (for example, Internships if you run an alumni mentoring or job-placement program), and remove a function when it is not relevant to your alumni program or when the underlying data should not be exposed to former students.

Notes

Prerequisites: relevant only to institutions that have the Alumni Portal and Alumni user role in use.

K-12 vs Higher Education: behaves the same regardless of institution type; both K-12 schools with active alumni programs and higher education institutions can use this to scope the Alumni Portal.
