What This Setting Does

This setting holds a custom message that is shown to Student and Parent users while Light Mode is active for them. It is meant for a general notice or usage instructions explaining why the portal looks or behaves differently during that period.

 

Where It Is Used

The message is displayed automatically on the Student or Parent dashboard whenever Light Mode is active for that user. There is no separate preview screen; the text is entered from Main Settings > General Settings > Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration.

 

Business Logic / Behavior

  • The message only appears while Light Mode is active for the logged-in Student or Parent, based on Enable Light Mode for selected user types (Enable_Light_Mode_For_User_Types in Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration).
  • The same message text is shared between Students and Parents; there is no way to store separate wording for each user type.
  • The field supports rich text formatting, including bold, italics, colored text, hyperlinks, and lists.
  • The field is empty by default; if left empty, no message box appears even while Light Mode is active.
  • Once Light Mode ends for a user, the message stops appearing until Light Mode is active again.

 

Example(s)

Alpha Institute activates Light Mode for Students and Parents during report card release week. The administrator enters the following text into this setting: “You are viewing a simplified version of the portal due to high traffic this week. Some features may be temporarily unavailable and will return to normal after July 10, 2026.” Every Student and Parent who logs in during that week sees this notice on their dashboard, explaining why the interface looks different.

 

When to Use

Use this field to explain to students and parents why their dashboard looks simplified whenever Light Mode is turned on, and to set expectations about which features may be temporarily limited. Update or clear the wording once Light Mode is deactivated so the next activation shows fresh, relevant instructions.

Prerequisites: only becomes visible when Enable Light Mode for selected user types (Enable_Light_Mode_For_User_Types in Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration) includes Student and/or Parent.
