Select elements to hide on the Parent Dashboard in Light Mode

Updated on July 8, 2026

1 min to read

Overview

Display label: Select elements to hide on the Parent Dashboard in Light Mode

Setting ID: Hide_Dashboard_Elements_Parents_In_Light_Mode

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration

What This Setting Does

This setting selects which widgets are hidden from a Parent’s dashboard specifically while Light Mode is active for that Parent. It only matters when Light Mode is turned on for parents; it has no effect otherwise.

Where It Is Used

This applies automatically on the Parent dashboard home page whenever Light Mode is active for that Parent. There is no separate preview screen; the list of elements to hide is configured from Main Settings > General Settings > Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • This setting only takes effect when Enable Light Mode for selected user types (Enable_Light_Mode_For_User_Types in Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration) includes Parent and Light Mode is currently active for that Parent.
  • While Light Mode is active, the elements selected here completely replace whatever is configured in the regular Select elements to hide on the Parent Dashboard (HideDashboardPageElements_Parents in Dashboard Settings > Dashboard Settings & Rights) setting; the two lists are not combined.
  • By default, Timeline and Calendar are hidden while Light Mode is active, presenting parents with a lighter dashboard.
  • The full list of elements available to hide includes: Calendar, Timeline, Birthdays, and Mobile Apps.
  • Once Light Mode ends for a Parent, the dashboard reverts to using the regular Select elements to hide on the Parent Dashboard configuration.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute keeps the default selection (Timeline and Calendar hidden) during its report card release week. Parent feedback shows the Calendar widget is important even during that busy period, so the administrator updates this setting to hide only Timeline, leaving Calendar visible for parents the next time they log in while Light Mode is active.

When to Use

Adjust this list to decide which widgets are worth the extra loading time during high-traffic periods. Keep more elements hidden when the priority is maximum portal responsiveness, and keep fewer elements hidden when parents still need quick access to certain information, such as the Calendar, even while Light Mode is active.

Notes

Prerequisites: only takes effect if Parent is included in Enable Light Mode for selected user types (Enable_Light_Mode_For_User_Types in Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration).

  • Related settings: Enable Light Mode for selected user types (Enable_Light_Mode_For_User_Types in Dashboard Settings > Light Mode Configuration)
  • Related settings: Select elements to hide on the Parent Dashboard (HideDashboardPageElements_Parents in Dashboard Settings > Dashboard Settings & Rights)

K-12 vs Higher Education: behaves the same regardless of institution type.
