Overview
Activate Pledge Management for _Students_/Activate_Pledge_Management_for_Students is a setting located in Financial Settings > General Settings > Reductions, Discounts & Loans, under the Loans/Interest Management sub-group. It turns on the ability to manage pledges made in connection with a _Student’s_ financial account.
What This Setting Does
This setting switches on Classter’s pledge management functionality for _Students_. A pledge in Classter represents a committed amount, such as an agreed discount or promised contribution, that is tracked against a _Student’s_ financial record. When enabled, the platform makes available the tools needed to track and manage these pledges, including their connection to vouchers used for discounts (see the Vouchers sub-group settings).
Where It Is Used
This setting is configured on the settings screen below, and it controls whether pledge-related options appear on the _Student_ arrangement and voucher screens.
- Main Menu > Configuration > Main Settings > Financial Settings > General Settings > Reductions, Discounts and Loans tab > Loans/Interest Management section – this is where the setting itself is turned on or off.
- Main Menu > Student’s record > Financial tab > Arrangements > Discounts/Loans/Interests section – when enabled, a Pledge Discounts filter button appears here, and a Pledge column becomes visible on the _Student’s_ Vouchers grid within the same Financial tab.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This is an on/off (checkbox) setting; the default value is False, meaning pledge management is inactive unless explicitly enabled.
- Enabling this setting unlocks functionality for tracking pledged amounts connected to a _Student’s_ discounts or agreements.
- This setting acts as a prerequisite for the Vouchers sub-group settings related to pledge discounts, since those settings reference “pledge discounts” and dynamic pledge amount vouchers.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute agrees on May 15, 2026 to grant _Student_ Alex D. a $1,200 discount that is tracked as a pledge, to be honored through a voucher once the fall 2026 academic period begins. Before this setting is enabled, the Pledge Discounts filter button and the Vouchers grid’s Pledge column are not visible anywhere in the Financial tab, so the finance team has no way to see that the $1,200 is a pledge rather than an ordinary discount. The administrator enables Activate Pledge Management for _Students_, which immediately makes the Pledge Discounts filter and the Pledge column available, letting the finance team track the $1,200 pledge separately from Alex D.’s other discounts until it is honored through a voucher.
When to Use
Use this setting only if your institution manages discounts or commitments to _Students_ through the concept of pledges, particularly if you plan to use the pledge-related voucher settings in the Vouchers sub-group.
When to Enable
Enable this setting if your institution needs to track pledged discounts or commitments connected to _Student_ accounts, especially when combined with automatic voucher generation for pledge discounts.
When to Disable
Keep this setting disabled if your institution does not use the pledge management concept, to avoid exposing unused pledge-related options to financial staff.

Prerequisites: this setting is grouped with loan management functionality; it is recommended to review Activate Loans Management for _Students_/Activate_Loans_Management_For_Students alongside this setting, and it is closely related to the pledge discount settings in the Vouchers sub-group.

This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Higher Education Mode (Enable Configuration for Higher Education/Xrisi_parametropoihshs_kolegiou) is enabled or disabled.
