Teacher Payment Related Costs Source

Updated on July 8, 2026

Overview

Display label: Where Classter finds the related Costs

Setting ID: Teacher_Payment_Related_Costs_Source

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > HR Management, in the Teacher Costs Management group.

What This Setting Does

When Classter calculates how much to pay a _Teacher_ for a piece of work, it needs a unit cost to apply. This setting decides where that cost comes from: the _Teacher_’s own Employment Contract, a default cost configured on the Work Type itself, or both, tried in order.

Where It Is Used

  • Teacher > Teachers list > Manage Teacher Payable Hours, whenever a payable hours calculation is run for one or more teachers.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • If Teacher’s Employment Contracts is included, Classter first looks for a matching Employment Contract Allocation line for the _Teacher_ (matched by Work Type, location, grade, and subject). If a matching allocation with a cost is found, that cost is used.
  • If no matching allocation line has a cost, Classter falls back to the corresponding header-level cost field on the _Teacher_’s Employment Contract, such as the Exam Invigilator or Exam Marking cost.
  • If no cost is found from the contract, or Default Costs per Work Type is the selected source, Classter uses the default Net and Gross unit cost configured directly on the Work Type.
  • If neither source produces a usable cost, the calculated entry is created without a unit cost.

Examples

Alpha Institute selects both sources. _Teacher_ Mark R. has an active Employment Contract Allocation for teaching sessions in the Math department at 25 dollars per hour, so his May session calculation uses that 25 dollar rate. _Teacher_ Sara L. has no contract allocation for exam invigilation, so her invigilation entries use the Default Costs per Work Type configured on that Work Type instead.

Beta College selects only Default Costs per Work Type, so every _Teacher_’s payable entries use the same standard rate per Work Type, regardless of what is written into individual Employment Contracts.

When to Use

This is a choice setting rather than an on/off switch. Select Teacher’s Employment Contracts when pay rates vary by individual contract, Default Costs per Work Type for a uniform institution-wide rate, or both to let contract rates take priority with a fallback to the default.

Notes

  • Prerequisites: Enable Teacher Payable Hours Management (Enable_Teacher_Payment_Management in HR Management > Teacher Costs Management) must be enabled.
  • Related settings: Enable Teacher costs management for the following working types (Teacher_Payment_Management_Per_Work_Type in HR Management > Teacher Costs Management).
  • Related settings: Calculate working hours for teaching by dividing payments working minutes by (Teacher_Payment_Working_hours_Divider in HR Management > Teacher Costs Management).
  • Related configuration: Employment Contract Work Types (HR Management parametric list).

K-12 vs Higher Education: this setting behaves the same regardless of institution type.
