Overview
Auto selection of a financial period for all installments when an arrangement is created is a setting located under Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters, in the New Arrangement Settings sub-group.
What This Setting Does
This setting controls whether every installment of a newly created financial arrangement automatically receives a financial period, and how that financial period is determined. Financial periods can be created and managed from the financial dropdown menu, and this setting defines the method Classter uses to automatically assign one to each installment.
Where It Is Used
This setting is applied at the moment a new financial arrangement is saved for a _Student_.
- Main Menu > Management > Students List > (open a _Student_) > Financial tab – when a new arrangement is created here, each installment automatically receives a financial period based on this setting’s selected option.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This is a dropdown (single-select) setting with three options: Disable, Autoselect Using Pay Day, and Autoselect Using Arrangement Plan Properties.
- When set to Disable (the default), installments do not automatically receive a financial period.
- When set to Autoselect Using Pay Day, Classter assigns a financial period to each installment based on that installment’s pay date.
- When set to Autoselect Using Arrangement Plan Properties, Classter determines the financial period based on properties configured on the arrangement plan itself, rather than the pay date.
Example(s)
Example: Alpha School wants every installment of a new tuition arrangement to automatically be tagged with the correct financial period as soon as the arrangement is created. The finance administrator sets this option to Autoselect Using Pay Day. When a new arrangement is created with installments due on September 5, October 5, and November 5, 2026, Classter automatically assigns each installment to the “September 2026”, “October 2026”, and “November 2026” financial periods, based on each installment’s pay date, instead of the administrator manually tagging all 3 installments by hand.
When to Use
Use this setting when your institution wants financial periods to be automatically assigned to installments as soon as an arrangement is created, saving staff from manually tagging each installment. Choose Disable if automatic assignment is not needed, Autoselect Using Pay Day if the financial period should follow each installment’s due date, or Autoselect Using Arrangement Plan Properties if the financial period should instead be derived from settings defined on the arrangement plan.
Notes
Prerequisites: Financial periods should be configured from the financial dropdown menu before relying on this automatic assignment.
