Enable Non-Required status for installments

Overview

Enable Non-Required status for installments/Enable_Non_Required_Status_For_Installments is a setting located under Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters, in the Arrangement Installment Properties sub-group.

What This Setting Does

This setting allows an installment within a financial Arrangement to be marked with a “Non-Required” status. Installments marked this way are hidden from end users and are excluded from reporting and financial totals, effectively letting staff keep an installment on record without it counting toward what is owed or shown to Students and parents.

Where It Is Used

This setting was found directly referenced in the Portal code. It affects the following screen:

  • Main Menu > _Students_ > Students List > Edit Student > Financial tab – the installments grid for the Student’s Arrangement shows a Non-Required column/checkbox on each installment once the setting is enabled.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • When enabled, a Non-Required status option becomes available for installments in a financial Arrangement.
  • Installments marked as Non-Required are not visible to end users.
  • Non-Required installments are excluded from reporting and financial totals.
  • When disabled, this status option is not available, and all installments remain visible and included in totals and reports as normal.

Example(s)

At Alpha Institute, a finance staff member named Tom is managing the 12-installment Arrangement for a Student named Ella N., where each installment is $180 (12 x $180 = $2,160 total). Installment #7, worth $180, was created by mistake and does not represent an actual charge. With this setting enabled, Tom marks that $180 installment as Non-Required, and Ella’s visible balance immediately drops from $2,160 to $1,980, while the school’s financial totals and reports also exclude that $180 from what is owed, without needing to delete the installment record.

When to Use

This setting matters whenever staff needs a way to neutralize an installment’s visibility and financial impact without removing it from the Arrangement altogether.

When to Enable

Enable this when the finance team wants the flexibility to hide specific installments from end users and reports while keeping a record of them within the Arrangement.

When to Disable

Disable this if the institution wants all installments to always remain visible and to always count toward totals and reporting, without any exceptions.

Notes

No prerequisites are required for this setting; it simply adds a new status option available on installments within an Arrangement.

  • Enable Arrangement Installments Check 1 feature (Enable_Arrangement_Installments_Check_1_Feature in Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters > Arrangement Modifications)
  • Merge of how installments are presenting in _Student_/parent portal (Merge_of_how_installments_are_presenting_in_Student_parent_Portal in Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters > Arrangements Visibility to Payers)

This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Higher Education Mode (Enable Configuration for Higher Education/Xrisi_parametropoihshs_kolegiou) is enabled or disabled.
