Overview
Show Discount Details in Students/Parents Portal/Show_Discount_Details_in_Students_Parents_Portal is a setting located under Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters, in the Arrangements Visibility to Payers sub-group.
What This Setting Does
This setting controls whether the details of any discounts applied to a Student’s financial Arrangement are shown to the Student and their parents/relatives in the portal. When enabled, Students and parents can see discount information alongside their Arrangement; when disabled, that discount information is hidden from them.
Where It Is Used
This setting is read and applied in the backend service that builds the Student/parent financial view. It affects:
- Main Menu > Financial (Student/parent portal) – the discount breakdown shown alongside a Student’s Arrangement and installments in this view is controlled by this setting.
Business Logic / Behavior
- When enabled, discount details connected to a financial Arrangement are displayed to Students and parents in the portal.
- When disabled, discount details are hidden from Students and parents in the portal, though staff can still see this information internally.
- The total amount due still reflects the discount even when details are hidden; only the breakdown/explanation of the discount is affected by this setting.
Example(s)
At Alpha Institute, the family of a Student named Nina A. receives a 15% sibling discount on her $4,000 annual Arrangement, reducing her total due by $600 to $3,400. With this setting enabled, when Nina’s parent logs into the portal, they see a clear breakdown showing the 15% ($600) sibling discount applied against the $4,000 base fee, rather than just a final $3,400 total with no explanation of how it was reached.
When to Use
This setting matters when the institution wants to decide how transparent to be with Students and families about discounts applied to their financial Arrangements.
When to Enable
Enable this when the institution wants Students and parents to have full transparency into any discounts applied to their fees, which can help build trust and reduce billing inquiries.
When to Disable
Disable this if the institution prefers to keep discount specifics confidential and only show the resulting totals to Students and parents, without a detailed breakdown.
Notes
No prerequisites are required for this setting; it only affects visibility of discount information in the portal.
- Student Status enabled for Financial Agreement presentation (Student_Status_Enabled_For_Financial_Agreement_Presentation in Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters > Arrangements Visibility to Payers)
- Merge of how installments are presenting in _Student_/parent portal (Merge_of_how_installments_are_presenting_in_Student_parent_Portal in Financial Settings > General Settings > Arrangements Parameters > Arrangements Visibility to Payers)
This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Higher Education Mode (Enable Configuration for Higher Education/Xrisi_parametropoihshs_kolegiou) is enabled or disabled.
