What This Setting Does
This setting narrows down which _Groups_ appear in the Alternative Main Group drop down on the educational program section of the _Student_ form. Instead of listing every _Group_ in the institution, only _Groups_ that belong to the _Group_ types selected here will be offered as options.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, Alternative Main Group field.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Only _Groups_ whose Group type matches one of the types selected in this setting will be shown in the Alternative Main Group drop down.
- _Groups_ of any other type are hidden from that specific drop down, even if they are otherwise active and available for the current period.
- This filter applies only to the Alternative Main Group field; the standard Main Group field is not affected and continues to list _Groups_ according to the Main Groups can be assigned based on setting.
- If no Group type is selected, the Alternative Main Group drop down has no type-based restriction applied by this setting.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute selects the Group type Support Group in this setting. When staff member Aiden C. opens the educational program section for _Student_ Mia T., the Alternative Main Group drop down only lists the 5 Support Groups configured at the institution, such as Reading Support A and Reading Support B, and does not show any of the 40 regular teaching Groups.
When to Use
Use this setting when Alternative assignments for the Main Group are only meaningful for certain kinds of _Groups_, such as support, remedial, or overflow groups, and staff should not be able to pick an unrelated regular teaching _Group_ as an alternative.
Notes
Prerequisite: the Main Group option in the Enable Alternative assignments setting must be activated for the Alternative Main Group field, and this filter, to appear.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
