Auto Calculate Ed Program End Date Based On Math Category Duration

Updated on July 9, 2026

1 min to read

Overview

Setting label: Auto-calculate educational program End Date based on Educational Program Category duration (weeks)

Setting ID: Auto_Calculate_Ed_Program_End_Date_Based_On_Math_Category_Duration

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration tab, Educational Program Parameters group

What This Setting Does

This setting automatically calculates the End Date of a _Student_ educational program registration, using the duration in weeks that has been configured on the Educational Program Category assigned to that program. Instead of staff manually typing an end date, Classter works it out from the start date plus the category’s configured duration.

Where It Is Used

Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, End Date field.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • When enabled, and the institution uses Educational Program Categories, Classter calculates the End Date of an educational program registration automatically as the start date plus the number of weeks configured on the linked category.
  • The related Set a specific day for auto-calculation setting can further fix the calculated end date to a specific weekday, rather than an exact day count.
  • When disabled, the End Date field must be entered manually by staff and is not derived from the category duration.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute enables this setting and has an Educational Program Category called Intensive Summer Program configured with a duration of 8 weeks. On 1 June 2026, registrar Nadia P. creates an educational program registration for _Student_ Owen B. starting on 1 June 2026 and assigns the Intensive Summer Program category. Classter automatically sets the End Date to 27 July 2026, 8 weeks later, without Nadia entering it manually.

When to Use

When to Enable

Enable this setting when the institution runs standardized-length programs, such as fixed-term courses or terms, and wants the end date to be consistent and automatically derived from the program category.

When to Disable

Disable this setting when program lengths vary by individual _Student_ or are not tied to a fixed category duration, requiring staff to set the end date manually case by case.

Notes

Prerequisite: Educational Program Categories must be configured with a duration in weeks for the automatic calculation to work.

Related settings:

  • Set a specific day for auto-calculation of educational program end date (Set_Specific_day_For_Auto_Calculation_Of_Ed_Program_End_Date in Student Form Registration > Educational Program Parameters)

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
