What This Setting Does
This setting fills in the Location field of a _Student_ educational program registration automatically whenever a staff member leaves it blank. It determines where Classter should pull that default Location value from.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, Location field.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Grade Location: if the Location field is left blank, Classter automatically copies the Location configured on the _Student_’s _Grade_.
- Main Location: if the Location field is left blank, Classter automatically uses the institution’s Main Location instead of the Grade’s Location.
- If the end user explicitly selects a Location on the educational program record, that manual selection is always used and the automatic calculation does not override it.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute sets this setting to Grade Location. Grade 5 is configured with Location Downtown Campus. When registrar Tom E. creates an educational program registration for _Student_ Aria N. in Grade 5 and leaves the Location field blank, Classter automatically fills it in as Downtown Campus.
When to Use
Use Grade Location when each _Grade_ is tied to a specific campus or site and Location should follow the _Student_’s Grade automatically. Use Main Location when the institution operates from a single primary site and wants that site used as the default whenever staff do not specify a Location.
