Overview
This setting (Educational_Program_Required_Comments_For) is located in Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration, under the Drop Off Indicator & Disable Reregistration Settings group.
What This Setting Does
This setting decides for which of the two educational program indicators, Drop Off Indicator and Disable Reregistration, a comment becomes mandatory whenever staff set a value on that indicator. When an indicator is selected here, staff will not be able to save the educational program record until they have also entered a comment explaining the selection.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Management > Students > Students List > [click a _Student_] > Edit form > Educational Program / School Registrations tab (Add/Edit School Registration) – the comment requirement is enforced here whenever staff set a value on the Drop Off Indicator or the Disable Reregistration flag.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This is a multi-select setting with two possible options: Drop Off Indicator and Disable Reregistration.
- If Drop Off Indicator is selected, a comment becomes mandatory whenever staff set a value on the Drop Off Indicator field.
- If Disable Reregistration is selected, a comment becomes mandatory whenever staff set a value on the Disable Reregistration flag.
- Both can be selected together, only one can be selected, or the list can be left empty so that no comment is required for either indicator.
- This setting only has a practical effect on the indicators that are themselves enabled (Enable_DropOffIndicator and/or Enable_DisableReregistrationFlag).
Example(s)
At Alpha Institute, administrator Grace selects Disable Reregistration in this setting. When staff member Tom sets the Disable Reregistration flag on _Student_ Ines N.’s Marketing educational program, Classter now requires Tom to enter a comment before he can save the record. Tom types ‘Family relocated abroad in June 2026’ and the record is saved successfully. Because Drop Off Indicator was not selected, setting that separate indicator on another _Student_’s record does not require a comment.
When to Use
Use this setting when the institution wants to keep a documented explanation every time staff flag a _Student_’s educational program with the Drop Off Indicator and/or the Disable Reregistration flag, improving traceability for later review or reporting. Leave the relevant option unselected if a free-form comment is not required for that indicator.

Prerequisite: this setting only takes effect for the indicators that are separately enabled, Enable_DropOffIndicator and/or Enable_DisableReregistrationFlag.
