What This Setting Does
This setting adds an additional categorization option to a _Student_ educational program registration, based on timetable sections. It lets the institution classify a _Student_ enrollment not only by _Group_ but also by a Zone or Section drawn from the weekly timetable structure.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, Zone/Section field.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Disabled: no Zone or Section field is shown on the educational program section, and enrollments are categorized only by _Group_.
- Select Zone: an additional field is shown on the educational program section allowing staff to select a timetable Zone for the enrollment.
- Select Section: an additional field is shown allowing staff to select a timetable Section for the enrollment, offering a more granular categorization than Zone.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute sets this setting to Select Section. When registrar Tom E. creates an educational program registration for _Student_ Ivy S. in the Year 9 _Group_, an extra Section field appears on the form. Tom selects Section B, linking Ivy’s enrollment to that specific timetable section in addition to her _Group_.
When to Use
Use Select Zone or Select Section when the institution organizes _Students_ within a _Group_ into smaller timetable-based subdivisions, for example for room allocation, activity rotation, or split scheduling, and needs to track that subdivision on each _Student_ enrollment. Leave the setting Disabled if _Group_ alone is sufficient to categorize enrollments.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
