Prompt Employees To Select Educational Program Special Drop Down Indication

Updated on July 9, 2026

2 min to read

Overview

Setting label: Prompt employees to select educational program, special drop-down Indication 1 as a required field

Setting ID: Prompt_Employees_To_Select_Educational_Program_Special_Drop_Down_Indication

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration tab, Educational Program Parameters group

What This Setting Does

This setting makes the Indication 1 drop-down field on the educational program section of the _Student_ form a required field. When enabled, employees must select a value for Indication 1 before they can save the educational program information of a _Student_, and this requirement applies to both newly created and already existing _Students_ that currently have no value in Indication 1.

Where It Is Used

Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, Indication 1 field.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • When enabled, the Indication 1 field on the educational program section becomes mandatory and the record cannot be saved without a value.
  • The requirement also applies retroactively: existing _Students_ that have no value in Indication 1 will be prompted to select one the next time their educational program is edited and saved.
  • When disabled, Indication 1 remains an optional field that can be left blank.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute enables this setting. Registrar Omar H. opens the educational program section for existing _Student_ Lily C., whose Indication 1 field has always been blank. When Omar tries to save an unrelated change to Lily’s record, Classter now requires him to first select a value for Indication 1, for example, Full-Time, before the save can complete.

When to Use

When to Enable

Enable this setting when the institution relies on the Indication 1 classification for reporting, billing, or eligibility rules and cannot allow educational program records to exist without it.

When to Disable

Disable this setting if Indication 1 is used only informally or for a subset of _Students_, and forcing every record to have a value would create unnecessary data-entry friction.

Notes

Prerequisite: The Indication 1 drop-down values must be configured before this setting is enabled; employees will have no options to select from.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
