Return Custom Educational Program Properties As Separated Tabs

Updated on July 10, 2026

2 min to read

Overview

Setting label: Return custom educational program properties as separated tabs

Setting ID: Return_Custom_Educational_Program_Properties_As_Separated_Tabs

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration tab, Educational Program Parameters group

What This Setting Does

This setting organizes any custom properties configured on the educational program form into separate tabs, instead of showing them all together on the main form. It only takes effect when at least one custom property has been configured and made visible to end users.

Where It Is Used

Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • Additional Tab: all returned custom properties are grouped together into one single extra tab on the Educational Program form.
  • Tab per Category: a separate tab is created for each unique category that the custom properties belong to, so properties from different categories appear on different tabs.
  • If Please Select (no option) remains chosen, or no custom property is configured to be visible to end users, no additional tabs are created and custom properties, if any, appear inline on the main form.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute has configured 6 custom educational program properties across 2 categories, Health Information and Transportation. With this setting set to Tab per Category, when staff member Diane F. opens the educational program section for _Student_ Ivy S., she sees 2 additional tabs, Health Information and Transportation, each containing the 3 custom properties belonging to that category, instead of all 6 fields listed together on the main form.

When to Use

Use Additional Tab when the institution has a small number of custom properties and wants them grouped in one place without further subdivision. Use Tab per Category when there are multiple categories of custom properties and separating them into their own tabs would make the form easier to navigate.

Notes

Prerequisite: at least one custom educational program property must be configured and set to be visible to end users for this setting to have any visible effect.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
