Overview
Setting label: Users must enter a valid date of birth before saving Student form
Setting ID: UsersMustEnterBirthDateBeforeSavingStudent
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration tab, Checks & Controls group
What This Setting Does
This setting makes the date of birth field mandatory on the _Student_ form. If it is enabled, Classter will not allow a _Student_ record to be saved unless a valid date of birth has been entered.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Student form, Date of Birth field.
Business Logic / Behavior
- When enabled, attempting to save a new or existing _Student_ record with an empty or invalid date of birth is blocked and the user is prompted to fill it in.
- When disabled, the _Student_ record can be saved with the date of birth left blank.
- The check applies to the date of birth field only and does not affect other demographic fields on the Student form.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute enables this setting. On 10 September 2026, staff member Rachel K. tries to save a new _Student_ record for Tobias R. without entering a date of birth. Classter blocks the save and displays a validation message asking Rachel to enter a valid date of birth. Rachel enters 22/04/2011 and the record saves successfully.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this setting when the institution relies on date of birth for age-based rules, such as _Grade_ eligibility, age-based fee categories, or age-restricted transportation and activities, and needs to guarantee the field is never left empty.
When to Disable
Disable this setting if the institution sometimes registers _Students_ before their date of birth is confirmed, such as during preliminary enrollment or waiting-list stages.
