Overview
Setting label: Define validation rules for deleting educational programs linked to arrangements
Setting ID: Validation_Rules_For_Edu_Program_Deletion_Linked_To_Arrangements
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration tab, Educational Program Parameters group
What This Setting Does
This setting controls what checks Classter performs when a user tries to delete an educational program registration that is connected to a financial arrangement. An educational program can be connected to a financial arrangement either through its charged entity, such as a _Grade_ or Stream billed by the arrangement, or because the educational program itself is directly set as the arrangement’s connected educational program. This setting decides under which of these connections the deletion is still allowed, while the financial arrangement itself is kept. The same rule also applies to arrangements that already have transaction documents, such as invoices, issued against them.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Students > Students List > Create (or Edit) > Educational Program section, Delete action.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Charged Entity & Connected Educational Program (default): deletion is validated against both the charged entity connection and the direct connected-educational-program connection; if either connection exists, the corresponding validation rule applies before the educational program can be deleted.
- Charged Entity: deletion is validated only against the charged entity connection, for example a matching _Grade_ or Stream billed by the arrangement.
- Connected Educational Program: deletion is validated only against whether the educational program is directly set as the arrangement’s connected educational program.
- The rule applies even when the connected financial arrangement already has transaction documents issued against it, so the financial arrangement and its documents are preserved even if the educational program registration is removed.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute keeps the default option, Charged Entity & Connected Educational Program. _Student_ Grace L. has an educational program registration in Grade 9 that is directly set as the connected educational program of a Tuition Plan 2026 arrangement, which already has 3 invoices issued. When finance officer Peter D. tries to delete Grace’s Grade 9 educational program, Classter checks the connection to the Tuition Plan 2026 arrangement and applies the deletion rule for that connection, keeping the arrangement and its 3 invoices intact regardless of the outcome for the educational program record.
When to Use
Use Charged Entity & Connected Educational Program for the broadest protection, checking both types of connection before deletion. Use Charged Entity alone when only Grade/Stream-based billing connections should matter for this validation. Use the Connected Educational Program alone when only the direct link between an arrangement and a specific educational program should be checked.
Notes
K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Enable Configuration for Higher Education is on or off.
