What This Setting Does
This is an on/off switch that controls whether _Students_ composing a message in Classter can add their connected relatives (such as parents or guardians) in a Carbon Copy (CC) field, so those relatives receive a copy of the message by email.
Where It Is Used
Internal Messaging > Compose Message screen. When a _Student_ opens the message composer (basic or advanced version), an additional CC field appears letting them add their connected relatives, but only if this setting is enabled.
Business Logic / Behavior
- When enabled, the message composer used by _Students_ shows an extra list where they can add their connected relatives in CC.
- When disabled, no CC option is shown to _Students_ in the composer, and their message is sent only to the originally selected recipient.
- This setting only affects the _Student_’s own message composer; it is independent from the separate setting that lets relatives CC other contacts.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute enables this setting so that when a _Student_, Lucas B., sends a message to his academic advisor, he can also CC his mother, Diane B., by email.
Before enabling: Lucas’s compose screen only lets him pick one recipient (the advisor), with no CC option.
After enabling: Lucas’s compose screen shows an extra CC field listing his connected relatives, and he selects his mother so she receives a copy of the same message.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this when the institution wants to let _Students_ keep their relatives informed by copying them on messages sent through Classter, without needing the relative to be a direct recipient.
When to Disable
Disable this when the institution wants to keep messaging between _Students_ and staff limited strictly to the selected recipients, for privacy or simplicity reasons.
