Overview
Setting: Enable Notification Service
Setting ID: Enable_Notification_Service
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Messaging & Notifications tab, Notifications Service group
What This Setting Does
This is an on/off switch that turns on Classter’s automated notification service. Once enabled, Classter can send bulk notifications automatically, on a recurring schedule, according to notification rules the institution configures separately.
Where It Is Used
Main Settings > Advanced Configurations > Notification Service Configuration. This is the screen where the actual notification rules (which events trigger a notification, and to whom) are defined. This setting only turns the overall service on or off; the rules themselves live on that separate screen.
Business Logic / Behavior
- When enabled, the notification service runs regularly, at the time of day configured in the Notification Service Run Time setting.
- When enabled, notifications are sent using the method configured in the Notification Service Message Type setting.
- The notifications are based on the created notification templates in Advanced Configurations > Notification Service Configuration, with the ability to enable notifications related to marks, attendance, financial and others.
- When disabled, the notification service does not run at all, even if notification rules are already configured in the Notification Service Configuration screen.
- This setting is disabled by default.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute wants to automatically notify staff whenever a _Student_ reaches a certain number of absences. They first define that rule in the Notification Service Configuration screen, then come to this setting and enable it.
Before enabling: the absence rule exists in the configuration screen but nothing is ever sent, because the service itself is off.
After enabling: the service starts running on its configured schedule and begins evaluating the absence rule, sending notifications to the relevant staff whenever a _Student_ meets the configured condition.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this once the institution has defined the notification rules it wants applied, in the Notification Service Configuration screen, and is ready for those rules to start triggering automatically.
When to Disable
Disable this to pause all automated rule-based notifications institution-wide, for example while notification rules are being reviewed or reconfigured.
Notes
Prerequisites: enabling this setting alone does not send any notifications; the institution must also configure the desired rules in the Notification Service Configuration screen.
