Overview
Setting: Notification Service Run Time
Setting ID: NotificationServiceRunTime
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Messaging & Notifications tab, Notifications Service group
What This Setting Does
This setting defines the time of day at which the automated notification service runs and evaluates its configured rules.
Where It Is Used
This setting runs automatically in the background as part of the notification service; there is no separate screen where staff watches it execute. It only takes effect when the Enable Notification Service setting is turned on.
Business Logic / Behavior
- The notification service checks its configured rules once per day, at the time set here.
- This setting has no effect unless Enable Notification Service is turned on.
- Only the time of day is relevant for this setting; any date portion stored along with it is not used.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute wants notifications to go out early in the morning, before the school day starts, so that staff sees them first thing. They set this setting to 6:30 AM.
From that point on, the notification service checks its rules every day at 6:30 AM and sends out any notifications that are due, rather than running at some other, unpredictable time.
When to Use
Use this setting to align the timing of automated notifications with the institution’s working hours or communication preferences, for example, running early in the morning so staff can act on notifications during the school day.
Notes
Prerequisites: this setting only has an effect when Enable Notification Service is turned on.
