Overview
Display label: Set a Student as “re-registration” only if the status in the transfer from the academic period was a type of registered or graduate
Setting ID: Set_As_Register_If_Previous_Status_Was_Register_Or_Graduate
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Period To Period Transfers, Basic Settings group
What This Setting Does
When a Student is moved from one academic period to the next, Classter has to decide whether that Student’s Educational Program should be labeled as a new Registration or as a Re-registration in the new period. This setting tightens that decision: a Student is only marked as a re-registration when their status in the period they are transferring from was itself a Registered-type or Graduate-type status.
If the Student’s prior status was something else, such as an applicant, withdrawn, or suspended status, the transfer process does not automatically classify them as a re-registration.
Where It Is Used
This setting has no dedicated screen of its own. It runs automatically in the background whenever a back office user transfers Students to a new academic period from Students > select Student(s) > Transfers > Transfer from period, or Transfer to another school unit. It also applies during the equivalent Online Re-registration process that Students or parents complete themselves.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Applies during the period-to-period transfer and online re-registration process, at the moment the target Educational Program status is determined.
- When enabled, a Student is set to re-registration status in the new period only if their status in the origin period was a Registered-type or Graduate-type status.
- When enabled and the origin status was not Registered or Graduate type, the Student is not automatically classified as a re-registration; the standard new-registration handling applies instead.
- When disabled, this extra check is skipped, and the transfer process determines re-registration status using its standard rules, without checking the type of the origin status.
- Default value is disabled (False).
Example(s)
Alpha Institute transfers its Students from the 2025-2026 academic period to 2026-2027. Maria K. was registered in 2025-2026, and Panagiotis D. was a Graduate at the end of 2025-2026, continuing into a higher program. Elena V. had an Applicant status in 2025-2026 because her enrollment was never finalized.
With the setting enabled: Maria and Panagiotis are both transferred with a Re-registration status in 2026-2027, because their prior status was Registered or Graduate. Elena is not marked as a re-registration, because her prior status was Applicant.
With the setting disabled, the re-registration classification is decided by the standard transfer logic alone, without this additional check on the origin status type.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this setting when the institution wants re-registration status to be reserved strictly for Students who were already actively Registered or had Graduated in the previous period, avoiding accidental re-registration labeling for applicants or inactive Students.
When to Disable
Disable this setting when the institution is comfortable with the standard transfer logic deciding re-registration status without this extra restriction.
Notes
Prerequisites: Student statuses must be configured with the correct type classification (Registered, Graduate, etc.) for this check to work as expected.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether the institution is a K-12 school or a Higher Education institution.
