Enroll ALTERNATIVE MAIN GROUP based on ALTERNATIVE MAIN GROUP’s series

Updated on July 9, 2026

1 min to read

Overview

Display label: Enroll Alternative Main Group based on Alternative Main Group’s series

Setting ID: Transfer_Enroll_AltGroup_Based_On_AltGroup_Series

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Period To Period Transfers, Special Settings group

What This Setting Does

This setting changes how a Student’s Alternative Main Group is handled when transferring to a new academic period. Instead of copying the exact same Alternative Main Group from the source period, Classter enrolls the Student into the Alternative Main Group in the new period that matches the same series (naming or sequence pattern) as the one they had before.

Where It Is Used

This setting has no dedicated screen of its own. It runs automatically in the background whenever a Student’s Educational Program is transferred to a new academic period, whether through a back office transfer or through Online Re-registration.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • When enabled, the Student’s Alternative Main Group for the new academic period is determined by matching the series of the Alternative Main Group they had in the source period, rather than copying the same Alternative Main Group code directly.
  • When disabled, the Alternative Main Group is transferred using standard direct mapping, if included among the properties selected to be carried over.
  • Default value is disabled (False).

Example(s)

Alpha Institute organizes its Alternative Main Groups in a series pattern, such as “Science Track A” for one academic period and “Science Track A” continuing into the next period under a new period-specific code. Student Marios I. was enrolled in “Science Track A” in 2025-2026.

With this setting enabled, when Marios is transferred to 2026-2027, Classter automatically enrolls him in the “Science Track A” Alternative Main Group defined for 2026-2027, matched by series, instead of trying to reuse the exact 2025-2026 group record.

When to Use

When to Enable

Enable this setting when Alternative Main Groups are recreated each academic period under a consistent series naming pattern, and Students should automatically follow the same series into the new period.

When to Disable

Disable this setting when Alternative Main Groups should either be copied directly as-is or handled entirely through manual assignment after transfer.

Notes

Prerequisites: Alternative Main Groups for the target academic period must be created and follow a consistent series naming convention for this matching to work correctly.

  • Related settings: Keep the following properties when transferring an educational program from period to period (Educational_Program_Properties_For_Period_Transfer in Period To Period Transfers > Basic Settings)

-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether the institution is a K-12 school or a Higher Education institution.
