What This Setting Does
This setting is only relevant when the institution has configured the transfer process to increase a Student’s Stream during period-to-period transfer. It controls whether the Alternative Stream property should also be automatically increased in the same way, specifically for cases where the Alternative Stream value was not carried over from the source period.
Where It Is Used
This setting has no dedicated screen of its own. It runs automatically in the background during period-to-period transfer, together with the main setting that controls whether a transfer increases Grade or Stream.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Only has an effect when the institution’s transfer configuration is set to increase Stream during period-to-period transfer.
- Only applies when the Alternative Stream value was not carried over from the source period, meaning Alternative Stream was not included among the properties selected under Keep the following properties when transferring an educational program from period to period (Educational_Program_Properties_For_Period_Transfer in Period To Period Transfers > Basic Settings).
- When enabled under those conditions, Classter automatically increases the Alternative Stream value for the new academic period, following the same progression logic used for the main Stream.
- When disabled, or when the transfer is not configured to increase Stream, Alternative Stream is left blank in the new period whenever it was not carried over.
- Default value is disabled (False).
Example(s)
Alpha Institute is configured so that period-to-period transfer increases Stream. It also excludes Alternative Stream from the properties carried over during transfer, and enables this setting. Student Foteini K. had Stream 2 and Alternative Stream 2 in the source period.
When Foteini is transferred to the new academic period, her Stream automatically increases to 3, and because this setting is enabled, her Alternative Stream is also automatically increased to 3, even though Alternative Stream was not directly carried over.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this setting when the institution increases Stream during transfer and wants Alternative Stream to follow the same automatic progression whenever it is not otherwise carried over.
When to Disable
Disable this setting when Alternative Stream should remain blank in the new period unless explicitly carried over, even if Stream itself is being increased.
Notes
Prerequisites: The main transfer configuration must be set to increase Stream for this setting to have any effect.

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether the institution is a K-12 school or a Higher Education institution.
