Manage default services per educational program

Updated on July 10, 2026

Overview

Display label: Manage default services per educational program

Setting ID: Manage_Services_Per_Educational_Program

Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Services Parameters tab, Basic Settings group.

What This Setting Does

This setting opens a dedicated management screen where an institution defines, per educational program (per _Grade_ and, where applicable, per _Stream_ and registration category), which _Services_ should be treated as default services for _Students_ registered in that educational program. On this screen, each default service can also be marked to auto-enroll _Students_ automatically when they register in the matching educational program.

Where It Is Used

Main Settings > General Settings > Services Parameters tab > Basic Settings > click “Manage default services per educational program” to open the management screen. The screen lists educational programs (filterable by _Grade_) with their associated default _Services_, lets staff add or remove services per program, mark services for automatic enrollment, and copy the default service configuration from one educational program to another.

Business Logic / Behavior

  • Default services are configured per educational program, meaning combinations of _Grade_, _Stream_, and registration category can each have their own set of default _Services_.
  • Each default service entry can be flagged as auto-enroll; only services flagged this way are picked up by the automatic Service enrollment process when a Student’s educational program registration status matches the statuses configured for automatic enrollment.
  • Default service configurations can be copied from one educational program to another, avoiding the need to configure each program from scratch.
  • This screen only defines which Services are considered default for a program; it does not by itself enroll any Student. Actual automatic enrollment also depends on the registration statuses configured to trigger it.

Example(s)

Alpha Institute opens this screen and configures Grade 7 so that the School Bus and Lunch Program services are marked as default and set to auto-enroll. When Student Lucas R. registers in Grade 7 with a Registered status, Classter automatically enrolls him in both School Bus and Lunch Program, because those services are flagged as default and auto-enroll for that Grade.

When to Use

Use this screen whenever the institution wants specific Services to be automatically associated with particular educational programs, such as a mandatory lunch program for a given Grade or a transportation service tied to a specific Stream.

Notes

Prerequisites: the Services (Activities) that should be marked as default must already be created before they can be added on this screen.

  • Related settings: Educational program’s registration Statuses that enable the automatic enrollment of services (Status_For_Automatic_Service_Enrollment in Services Parameters > Basic Settings)
  • Related settings: Manage default services per Subject enrollment (Manage_Services_Per_Educational_Program_Courses in Services Parameters > Basic Settings)
  • Related settings: Do not re-enroll automatically enrolled default services if have been enrolled to at least one academic period for the same educational Program (Do_Not_Automatically_ReEnroll_Old_Services in Services Parameters > Basic Settings)
  • Related configuration: Default Services per Educational Program (the underlying list of default service associations managed on this screen)

K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether the institution is configured for K-12 or Higher Education.
