Overview
This article explains the application setting that controls whether Students (and their Parents/Guardians) can see a Teacher’s contact information, such as their email address, across the Student/Parents Portal.
The setting is named “Hide Teachers’ contact information from Students” (setting ID: Check_apokripsi_stoixeion_epikoin_ton_kathigitwn_se_mathites) and is found under Configuration > Main Settings > General Settings > Student/Parents Portal > Visibility Settings and Rights .
It belongs to the Visibility Settings and Rights group and is a company-wide setting, meaning it applies to the whole institution rather than per Academic Period, per Role, or per individual Teacher or Student.
What This Setting Does
This is an on/off (checkbox) setting. It is disabled by default, meaning Teacher contact information is visible to Students unless an administrator turns it on.
- When enabled: Teachers’ contact information, specifically their email address, is hidden wherever it would otherwise be shown to Students (and to Parents/Guardians viewing their child’s information) in the portal. Email links and addresses are removed from the relevant screens instead of being displayed.
When disabled (default): Teachers’ email addresses are shown normally in those same screens, and Students/Parents can use them to contact a Teacher directly.
In simple terms, this setting is a privacy switch: it decides whether Students and their families are allowed to see a Teacher’s direct email address, or whether they must rely on Classter’s own internal messaging to reach that Teacher.
Where It Is Used
Once enabled, this setting hides the Teacher’s email address in the following areas of the Student/Parents Portal:
- The “My Teachers” list – the grid that shows the Teachers assigned to a Student’s enrolled Subjects/Groups. This list is viewed by Students directly, and by Parents/Guardians on behalf of their child. When enabled, the Teacher’s email link is removed from each Teacher’s entry.
Internal Messaging – viewing a received message. When a Teacher sends an internal message, their email address would normally appear beneath their name in the conversation. This setting hides it when the message is viewed by a Student, or by an Admission applicant or Alumni using the same type of portal access.
- Internal Messaging – composing a message. When a Student searches for a Teacher to add as a message recipient, the recipient list would normally show the Teacher’s email address in a tooltip. This setting blanks that tooltip for Students.
This setting does not prevent Students from sending internal messages to Teachers through Classter’s own messaging tool; it only hides the Teacher’s direct email address on the screens listed above.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This setting acts as a single privacy switch for Teacher contact visibility: instead of configuring it separately for the Teachers list and for messaging, one setting controls it consistently across both areas.
The information affected is specifically the Teacher’s email address, since that is the only contact field shown to Students in the screens listed above.
- The default value is disabled, reflecting an “open by default” approach: Teacher contact details are visible to Students out of the box, and an administrator must make a deliberate choice to hide them.
In Internal Messaging, this setting specifically governs what a Student (or an Admission applicant/Alumni using the student-type portal) sees. When a Parent/Guardian opens the same conversation, the Teacher’s email address is not shown there regardless of how this setting is configured.
- This setting applies uniformly institution-wide. It is not scoped to a single Academic Period, Grade, Group, Subject, or individual Teacher – it is the same for every Student across the whole institution.

Example 1 – Contact information visible (default)
Alpha Institute leaves this setting disabled, as it is by default. Student Maria P. logs into her portal and opens “My Teachers” to see the list of Teachers for her enrolled Subjects. Next to Teacher George S.’s name, she sees his email address and can click it to send him a direct email. When she later opens an internal message that George S. sent her, his email address also appears under his name in the message.
Example 2 – Contact information hidden
Beta College enables this setting to keep all Teacher-Student communication inside Classter. Student Maria P. opens “My Teachers” again and now sees the list of her Teachers, but no email addresses are shown next to their names. When she starts composing a new internal message and searches for Teacher George S. in the recipient list, the tooltip that used to show his email address no longer displays it. She can still select him as a recipient and send the message through Classter’s internal messaging, but she has no way to see or copy his direct email address from these screens.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable this setting when the institution wants to protect Teachers’ personal contact information from Students and their Parents/Guardians, for example to align with a staff privacy policy, or to ensure that all Student-Teacher communication is tracked and takes place through Classter’s internal messaging rather than external email.
When to Disable
Keep this setting disabled (the default) when the institution wants Students and Parents/Guardians to be able to reach Teachers directly by email, for example in smaller schools or programs where personal accessibility between Teachers and Students/families is expected and valued.
Notes
Prerequisites
For this setting to have any visible effect on the “My Teachers” list, Teachers must actually be shown in that list in the first place. This depends on the setting “Show Enrolled Teachers on Parent Portal”/Show_Enrolled_Teachers_on_parent_Portal ( Configuration > Main Settings > General Settings > Student/Parents Portal > Visibility Settings and Rights ), which is enabled by default. If that setting is disabled, no Teacher entries appear on the list at all, so there is no contact information to hide.

K-12 versus Higher Education Mode
This setting behaves identically whether or not the institution runs in Higher Education mode (controlled by the “Enable Configuration for Higher Education” setting). Whether Students can see Teachers’ contact details does not change between the two modes; only on-screen terminology may differ (for example, Teacher may be displayed as Lecturer or Instructor in Higher Education mode).
