Overview
This article explains the application setting that controls whether parents (and students) can see the registration status of each Subject when viewing the list of Subjects a child is enrolled in, on the Parent Portal. It describes what the setting does, where it appears, how it behaves, and when your institution should turn it on or off.
What This Setting Does
When a parent opens the Enrolments view for a child, they see a list of the Subjects the child is currently enrolled in, organized by class. This setting controls whether an additional Status column is shown in that list.
- When the setting is switched ON, each Subject row also shows its current registration status (for example, Registered, Withdrawn, Passed, Failed, or any other status label your institution has defined).
- When the setting is switched OFF (the default), the Status column does not appear at all – parents only see the names of the Subjects the child is enrolled in.
The setting is a simple ON/OFF switch (checkbox). No further configuration is needed to turn it on or off, although the status values that appear depend on a separate list of Subject statuses maintained by your institution (see Notes).
Related setting: Show enrolled Teachers on parent portal/Show_Enrolled_Teachers_on_parent_Portal (Settings > Student/Parents Portal > Visibility Settings & Rights) – controls a separate Teachers column shown in the same Enrolments list, independently of the Status column.

Here you can choose whether the subject registration status will be visible in the parents’ portal.

Where It Is Used
The setting is configured in:
Settings > Student/Parents Portal > Visibility Settings & Rights
It affects the Parent Portal as follows: on the Parent dashboard, each child is shown as a card with an Enrolments link. Clicking this link opens a popup window listing the Subjects the child is enrolled in for the current class(es). If the setting is enabled, this popup also displays the registration status of every Subject in a dedicated Status column.
The same behavior also applies when a Student views their own Enrolments popup from the Student dashboard, since the same view and setting are shared between the Parent and Student portals.
This setting only has a visible effect if the Enrolments feature itself is available to parents. If your institution has hidden the Enrolments view entirely (see Notes), this setting has no effect, because parents will not reach the screen where the Status column would appear.
Business Logic / Behavior
- The setting is OFF by default, meaning registration status information is hidden from parents unless someone actively enables it.
- The status values shown are not fixed by the system – they come from the list of Subject statuses that your institution defines and assigns to students (for example Registered, Withdrawn, Auditing, Passed, Failed, Retake, or Postponed, or any custom label your institution prefers).
- If a Subject has not been assigned a status for a particular student, no status text will appear for that row, even when the setting is enabled.
- This setting applies to the whole institution at once – it is a single, institution-wide switch and cannot be turned on for some parents or students and off for others.
- This setting works independently from the separate setting that shows or hides enrolled teachers in the same list (see Notes) – the Status and Teachers columns can each be shown or hidden on their own.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute keeps this setting switched OFF by default. When a parent, for example Maria P., logs into the Parent Portal and opens the Enrolments popup for her daughter, she only sees the list of Subjects her daughter is enrolled in (such as Mathematics, English, and Biology), with no status information.
Alpha Institute later decides to switch the setting ON, so that parents can better follow their children’s enrollment situation, for instance when a Subject is dropped mid-term. After this change, when Maria P. opens the same Enrolments popup, she now also sees a Status column next to each Subject: Mathematics shows Registered, English shows Registered, and Biology shows Withdrawn, because her daughter stopped attending that Subject earlier in the term. Maria P. can now immediately see that her daughter is no longer registered in Biology, without needing to contact the school office.
When to Use
When to Enable
- Your institution wants parents to see, at a glance, whether their child is actively registered, has withdrawn, or has any other status in each Subject, without needing to contact the school.
- Your institution maintains a defined list of Subject statuses (Registered, Withdrawn, Passed, Failed, and similar) that are kept up to date for each student.
- Your institution wants to reduce the number of parent inquiries about enrollment or dropout status by making this information self-service.
When to Disable
- Your institution does not maintain Subject status values consistently, which could make the Status column appear blank or misleading.
- Your institution prefers to keep the Enrolments popup as simple as possible, showing only the list of Subjects without additional detail.
- Registration status changes are already communicated to parents through another channel, and repeating this information in the portal is not desired.
Notes
- This setting behaves identically whether the institution is configured for K-12 or Higher Education mode – there is no difference in behavior between the two modes.
- Prerequisite: for this setting to show meaningful information, your institution should first define and maintain the list of Subject statuses (for example Registered, Withdrawn, Passed, Failed, Retake, Postponed), and assign the appropriate status to each student’s Subject enrollment.
Prerequisite: the Enrolments feature itself must be visible to parents. If it is hidden through the Hide Enrollments View From Parents/Students/Hide_Enrollments_View_from_Parents_Students setting (Settings > Student/Parents Portal > Visibility Settings & Rights), parents cannot reach the screen affected by this setting.
