Overview
Display Label: Allow _Teachers_ to add period _Group_’s comments
Setting ID: Allow_Teachers_To_Add_Period_Group_Comments
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Teachers Portal Rights, Basic Settings group
What This Setting Does
This setting controls whether _Teachers_ who are not supervisors of a _Group_ are still allowed to add period comments for that _Group_. Period comments are notes a _Teacher_ can leave about a _Group_’s overall progress or behavior for a given marking period.
Where It Is Used
My Classes > select a _Group_ > Comments tab.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Disabled by default, meaning only the Group’s supervisor can add period comments for it.
- When enabled, any Teacher connected to the Group, for example one who teaches a Subject within it, can also add a period comment even if not the supervisor.
- Supervisors can always add period comments for their Group regardless of this setting.
Example
At Alpha Institute, Group Grade 9 – Section A is supervised by teacher Grace M. Teacher Daniel O. teaches Mathematics in that Group but is not its supervisor.
- Before enabling the setting: Daniel cannot add a period comment for Grade 9 – Section A; only Grace can.
- After enabling the setting: Daniel can also add his own period comment for Grade 9 – Section A alongside Grace’s.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable when several _Teachers_ share responsibility for a _Group_ and should all be able to record period comments, not only the assigned supervisor.
When to Disable
Disable, the default, to keep period comments limited to the _Group_’s supervisor, avoiding duplicate or conflicting notes from multiple _Teachers_.
Notes
- Related settings:
- Present all period Groups’ comments regardless Subjects (Present_All_Period_Group_Comments_Regardless_Subjects in Teachers Portal Rights > Basic Settings)
- Teachers are automatically considered supervisors in the sub-Groups of the main Groups that are supervisors (Teachers_Are_Automatically_Considered_Supervisors_In_The_SubGroups in Teachers Portal Rights > Basic Settings)
K-12 vs Higher Education: This setting behaves the same regardless of whether the institution is configured for K-12 or Higher Education.
