Overview
Display Label: _Teachers_ are automatically considered supervisors in the sub-_Groups_ of the main _Groups_ that are supervisors
Setting ID: Teachers_Are_Automatically_Considered_Supervisors_In_The_SubGroups
Location: Main Settings > General Settings > Teachers Portal Rights, Basic Settings group
What This Setting Does
This setting controls whether a _Teacher_ who supervises a main _Group_ automatically also counts as supervisor of that _Group_’s sub-_Groups_, meaning smaller _Groups_ nested under a main _Group_, such as streams or sections. When enabled, supervisor-level access extends down into the sub-_Groups_ automatically, without assigning the _Teacher_ separately to each one.
Where It Is Used
This setting runs automatically wherever supervisor status is checked across My Classes, Courses, and Student-related screens; it does not have its own dedicated screen beyond this Teachers Portal Rights tab.
Business Logic / Behavior
- Disabled by default.
- When enabled, a Teacher who supervises a main Group is treated as supervisor of all of that Group’s sub-Groups as well, for example when determining which courses and students the Teacher can access.
- When disabled, supervisor status only applies to the exact Group the Teacher is assigned to supervise; sub-Groups need their own supervisor assignment.
Example
At Alpha Institute, Grade 11 is a main Group with sub-Groups Grade 11 – Science Stream and Grade 11 – Arts Stream. Teacher Grace M. supervises Grade 11 only.
- Before enabling the setting: Grace is not automatically recognized as supervisor of the Science Stream or Arts Stream sub-Groups.
- After enabling the setting: Grace is automatically treated as supervisor of both sub-Groups, gaining the same access she has for the main Grade 11 Group.
When to Use
When to Enable
Enable when supervision is organized around a main _Group_ and the supervisor should automatically manage everything nested underneath it, avoiding separate sub-_Group_ assignments.
When to Disable
Disable, the default, when sub-_Groups_ should have their own, independently assigned supervisors.
