Here, you define the maximum number of Internship/Thesis applications that a student can make.
(Please note that if set to 0 then Students can make unlimited applications)
Setting -> 2 (Student can apply for a second internship)
Setting -> 1 (The apply option is hidden since the student already reached the maximum number of applications)
