Overview

The Default Message Category For Bulk Financial Notifications setting (Default_Message_Category_For_Bulk_Financial_Notifications) is located in Financial Settings > General Settings > General Financial Parameters, under the Basic Settings sub-group.

 

What This Setting Does

Classter allows institutions to define multiple message categories, each of which can be linked to a specific sender email address (for example, a general office address or a finance department address). This setting selects one of those existing message categories to act as the default sender identity for all bulk financial notifications sent from the system.

When a category is selected, any bulk financial notification (for example, mass reminders about outstanding installments) will show the sender email associated with the chosen message category, instead of the platform’s general default sender address.

 

Where It Is Used

This setting affects the backend logic that generates and sends bulk financial notifications; it has no dedicated screen of its own.

  • Main Menu > Configuration > Main Settings > Dropdown Lists – this is where message categories themselves (including the one chosen as default here) are created and managed, each with its own linked sender email address.

 

Business Logic / Behavior

  • This is a single-select (dropdown) setting; the administrator picks one existing message category from the categories already configured with institute notifications.
  • Once a category is selected, its associated sender email becomes the “from” address that payers see on bulk financial notifications.
  • If no message category is selected, the system falls back to its standard default sender address for these notifications.

 

Example(s)

Example Academy has a Finance Office message category configured with the sender address finance@exampleacademy.edu. An administrator named Alex sets this setting to “Finance Office”. On March 1, Classter sends a bulk reminder about overdue installments to 245 parents whose _Students_ carry a balance due; all 245 of those emails show finance@exampleacademy.edu as the sender, instead of the platform’s generic default address, giving every parent a single recognizable address to reply to when settling their installment.

 

When to Use

Configure this setting whenever the institution wants bulk financial communications to appear as coming from a specific, recognizable department rather than a generic system address. This is particularly useful for institutions where parents and payers are used to corresponding with a dedicated finance or accounts office. If no dedicated finance mailbox exists yet, the setting can be left unconfigured and the platform’s standard default sender will be used.

 

Notes

Prerequisite: at least one message category with an associated sender email (configured for institute notifications) must already exist before it can be selected here.

Related settings: Crm_Categories_For_Financial_Overview_List (Financial Settings > General Settings > General Financial Parameters > Additional Settings); Keep_Financial_Comment_As_Plain_Text (Financial Settings > General Settings > General Financial Parameters > Additional Settings).

  • Related configuration: Message Categories (Configuration > Main Settings > Dropdown Lists > Messaging Categories) – this is where message categories and their linked sender email addresses are created and managed.

This setting behaves the same regardless of whether Higher Education Mode (Enable Configuration for Higher Education/Xrisi_parametropoihshs_kolegiou) is enabled or disabled.
