Overview
This setting (Diathesimoi_Pros_Orismo_Simvouloi_Stin_Forma_Mathiti) is located in Main Settings > General Settings > Student Form Registration, under the Mentors Settings group.
What This Setting Does
This setting decides how a Mentor gets assigned to a _Student_. Classter can either automatically assign the currently logged-on user as the Mentor for every _Student_ that user creates, or it can ask the end user to pick a Mentor from a list of eligible _Teachers_ and/or employees. In either case, a person must be marked as an active Mentor in their personal record to be eligible.
Where It Is Used
Main Menu > Management > Students > Students List > New Student (Student/Create) – basic information section, Tutor/Mentor field. This setting controls whether that field is auto-filled with the logged-on user or presented as a selectable dropdown when a new _Student_ is created.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This is a single-select setting with two options. The default is Teachers and administrative staff selection based.
- Teachers and administrative staff selection based: the end user is asked to select a Mentor from a list of eligible _Teachers_ and, if enabled by the Mentors Dropdown: include Employees setting, employees as well.
- Automatic selection based on user work: Classter automatically assigns the currently logged-on user as the Mentor for every _Student_ that user creates, without asking for a manual selection.
- Whichever option is chosen, a _Teacher_ or employee must be marked as an active Mentor in their own personal record to be eligible to be assigned.z
Example(s)
At Alpha Institute, administrator Wei sets this setting to Automatic selection based on user work. When admissions officer Rosa D., who is marked as an active Mentor, creates a new _Student_ record for Thomas K., Classter automatically assigns Rosa as Thomas’s Mentor without prompting her to choose. If Wei had instead selected Teachers and administrative staff selection based, Rosa would have been shown a dropdown list of eligible Mentors and would have had to pick one manually.
When to Use
Use Teachers and administrative staff selection based when the institution wants staff to consciously choose the right Mentor for each _Student_ from a list. Use Automatic selection based on user work when the institution wants to save time by automatically pairing every newly created _Student_ with the staff member who registered them, without requiring a manual selection step.
Notes
Prerequisite: a _Teacher_ or employee must be marked as an active Mentor in their personal record to be eligible under either option.

K-12 vs Higher Education: this setting behaves the same regardless of whether Higher Education Mode (Enable Configuration for Higher Education/Xrisi_parametropoihshs_kolegiou) is enabled or disabled.
