Overview
Enable Successive Discounts/Diadodikes_Ekptoseis is a setting located in Financial Settings > General Settings > Reductions, Discounts & Loans, under the Discount Settings sub-group. It controls how Classter calculates the combined result when a _Student_ is granted more than one discount at the same time.
What This Setting Does
This setting determines the math Classter uses when a _Student_ has been given multiple discounts (for example, two separate percentage discounts) that apply to the same charge. It decides whether the discounts should be combined by adding their percentages together, or applied one after another (successively), where each discount is calculated on the amount that remains after the previous discount was already applied.
Where It Is Used
This setting is configured on the settings screen below, and its effect is applied automatically whenever Classter calculates a combined discount for a _Student_ arrangement.
- Main Menu > Configuration > Main Settings > Financial Settings > General Settings > Reductions, Discounts and Loans tab > Discount Settings section – this is where the setting itself is turned on or off.
- Main Menu > Financial > Arrangements List > open a _Student_ arrangement > Discounts/Loans/Interests section – the resulting combined discount amount (added together or applied successively, based on this setting) is reflected in the discount totals shown here.
Business Logic / Behavior
- This is an on/off (checkbox) setting; when off (the default value is False), Classter combines multiple discounts by adding their percentages together (for example, 5% and 10% become a single 15% discount).
- When enabled, Classter instead applies discounts successively: the first discount is applied to the original amount, and the second discount is then applied to the amount that already reflects the first discount (for example, 5% then 10%, applied one after the other, rather than 5%+10%).
- Enabling this setting generally results in a smaller combined discount than simple addition would produce, since each successive discount is calculated on a smaller base.
- This setting applies company-wide, affecting all _Students_ who have multiple discounts agreed at the same time, rather than being configurable per _Student_ or per arrangement.
Example(s)
Alpha Institute grants a _Student_, Alex D., both a 5% sibling discount and a 10% early-payment discount on the same $10,000 annual tuition fee arrangement. With Enable Successive Discounts turned off, Classter adds the percentages together for a combined 15% discount, taking $1,500 off the $10,000 tuition for a final price of $8,500. If Alpha Institute turns this setting on instead, Classter applies the 5% discount first ($500 off, reducing the balance to $9,500), then applies the 10% discount to that reduced $9,500 balance ($950 off), for a combined discount of $1,450 and a final tuition of $8,550 – $50 more than the $8,500 produced by simple addition.
When to Use
Use this setting to align Classter’s discount math with your institution’s financial policy on how multiple simultaneous discounts should combine.
When to Enable
Enable this setting if your institution’s policy is that each additional discount should be calculated on the amount remaining after previous discounts, which is a common approach when discounts are considered independent reductions applied in sequence.
When to Disable
Keep this setting disabled (the default) if your institution’s policy is to simply add together the percentages of all discounts a _Student_ qualifies for before applying them to the original price.
Notes
Prerequisites: none specific; this setting only has a visible effect once a _Student_ has more than one discount applied to the same arrangement or charge.
